Google ethos speeds up Chrome release cycle

What’s better: short trains that leave frequently, or longer trains that leave less often? Given Google programmers’ philosophy of releasing products early then iterating often, it’s no surprise that higher frequency is preferred. Thus the announcement Thursday that Google will speed up the release cycle of its Chrome browser.

Thunderbird gets minor point update

(Credit: Mozilla) Mozilla released a minor update to its tabbed e-mail program Thunderbird 3 yesterday, in anticipation of the release of its next beta version. Thunderbird 3.0.5 for Windows , Mac , and Linux includes several fixes to the user interface, improves message indexing and profile access on a network, and corrects an e-mail notification bug on Mac OS X.

Adobe to plug Flash hole this week

(Credit: Adobe) Adobe Systems said it will issue a patch for a critical hole being exploited in the wild by delivering an update for Flash Player by Thursday, and for Adobe Reader and Acrobat by June 29. The update of Flash Player 10.x will support Windows, Macintosh, and Linux, while the date for the release of a Solaris version is still to be determined, Adobe said late Monday . Meanwhile, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat update to come in three weeks will support Windows, Mac, and Unix

The latest version of Mozilla’s e-mail client is just about ready for public use, as the software publisher releases the first release candidate for Thunderbird 3.1, codenamed Lanikai. Available for Windows , Mac , and Linux , Thunderbird 3.1 RC 1 makes few changes to from the previous Thunderbird beta

Adobe has announced that the latest version of the Flash plug-in, required to run most video content on the Web, is now available as a release candidate. Users of the Flash 10.1 Release Candidate for Windows , Mac , and Linux should see significant resource reduction http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer10.1_hardware_acceleration_02.html while watching H.264 video and playing Flash-based games.
